Essential Hospital Bag Checklist For New Parents

Essential Hospital Bag Checklist for New Parents

Check out the ultimate hospital bag checklist for expecting parents! We hope it helps…

For Mum:

  • Maternity Notes: Have your hospital or birthing centre information and birth plan on hand.
  • Comfortable Clothing: A loose-fitting nightdress or top for labour, and comfy outfits for recovery (like button-up pyjamas for easy breastfeeding access).
  • Socks and Slippers: Hospital floors can be cold, so bring cosy socks or non-slip slippers.
  • Toiletries: Travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, face wipes, deodorant, and a lip balm (hospitals can be drying).
  • Postpartum Pads and Underwear: High-waisted disposable knickers and heavy-duty pads are helpful.
  • Nursing Bras and Breast Pads: Comfortable nursing bras and pads for the first few days.
  • Snacks and Drinks: Energy bars, drinks, and your favourite snacks, especially if labour is long.
  • Phone Charger and Entertainment: A long charging cable, headphones, a book, or downloaded shows to help pass the time.

For Baby:

  • Newborn Outfits: Two or three outfits in newborn and 0-3 month sizes.
  • Baby Blanket: Soft, cosy blanket for your baby’s first journey home.
  • Nappies and Wipes: Newborn nappies (around 10) and sensitive wipes or cotton wool.
  • Hats and Socks: Babies lose heat quickly, so pack a hat and socks.
  • Car Seat: Ensure it’s installed in your car and ready to go.

For Partner:

  • Change of Clothes: To stay comfortable throughout the process.
  • Snacks and Drinks: Labour can be long, so pack enough for both of you.
  • Personal Toiletries: Toothbrush, deodorant, and any medications needed.
  • Camera or Phone: To capture precious first moments.

After Baby Arrives:

  • Going-Home Outfit for Baby: Weather-appropriate clothing, socks, and a cosy layer if it’s cold.
  • Muslin Cloths: Handy for feeding and general baby care.
  • Mini Magoos Baby Classes: Once settled in, consider joining Mini Magoos baby classes in Chester, Wirral, Ellesmere Port, and Cheshire West to connect with other parents and enjoy baby-centred activities that support early development.

Mini Magoos classes offer a fantastic way to transition from the newborn phase, helping you and your little one bond, grow, and connect with other families in the area.
